Nearing the finish line

The grandmothers flower garden quilt is nearly done. I started this in March of 2013 and I am working on finishing the edges.

For some reason I could not decide on how to finish the edges so my progress came to a halt as I contemplated¬† this. Should I add half hexies, did I want to add a border fabric…what to do?

This is how the edge looked. I decided to use 2 hexagons and fill in the spaces between the flowers and see what it looked like.

I have decided that I quite like the look of the zig zag edge and I was able to baste and fill in almost one edge while watching TV last night.

Now I need to purchase the batting and backing and make the decision on whether to hand quilt or machine quilt. I was leaning towards hand quilting so that it would be entirely done by hand…. but I think that I like the look of machine quilting better and am thinking that I will be happier with the finished product. As well this will allow me to complete this and have it on my bed soon instead of years from now when I complete the endless hours of hand quilting.

I am just pleased that all the flowers are done and just the edges are left to finish.

Absolutely beautiful! It’s even more stunning knowing that each piece was stitched by hand.
